Rippling Bubbles (2021)
This project is an experiment on the controllable and the uncontrollable, inviting reflection on the delicate balance between these forces and the beauty that emerges from their interaction. Fire, as a delicate and almost formless element, embodies both creation and destruction. Using a controlled fire source, I experimented with negatives, first eroding them with water and ice, then drying and burning them with a blowtorch. This process distorted the images in both predictable and unpredictable ways, reshaping the negatives and generating new material while losing some content.
The soft distortion contrasts with the negatives’ stiff, fragile state after burning, symbolizing the inherent link between creation and destruction. In this way, the negatives showcase the unity of opposites, embodying the perpetual interplay between the controllable and the uncontrollable.
